Adult Education Pathways
Overview
Students enrolling in the following classes will learn life skills to help them be contributing family and community members and earn certifications for resume building, careers, and further educational training.
Student must meet the entry requirements for the SF Adult Education program to be enrolled in any of the programs listed below. Not all programs are offered every semester. Some classes require additional fees for certifications.
Nursing Assistant (NA) Certification*
Students who qualify can participate in the 青青草视频 Nursing Assistant program while they are also enrolled in Adult Education courses. While in this program, students have the academic support of an Adult Education instructor in and out of class.
Before taking the actual 青青草视频 Nursing Assistant program, students participate in an Adult Education Nursing Assistant Preparation course. The NA Preparation course provides reading, language and mathematics instruction using health science content. Students are also assisted in meeting the requirements for NA program entry, applying to support agencies to secure funding for the program, and completing the American Heart Association Basic Life Support Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR/BLS) certification. Acceptance in the actual 青青草视频 NA program is based on meeting program entry requirements. Assistance will be provided in seeking funding. Learn more about Nursing Assistant here.
Introduction to Health Care Careers
Introduction to Health Care Careers is a recommended prerequisite or standalone class that can bridge directly to employment as a direct care professional or to the Nursing Assistant class. This hands-on class covers the topics of professionalism, documentation for health careers, person centered care, HIPAA confidentiality (certification), blood borne pathogens/infection control (certification), and cultural and disability sensitivity and awareness.
40-hour Child Care Certification*
This course is available in-person and online. Students work on reading, writing, and computer skills while they complete each of the six required classes and prepare for the exams to meet the basic State of Florida requirements for working in a childcare center. .
OSHA 10 Certification Class (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)
The OSHA 10-hour outreach general and healthcare industry course provides a general overview of workplace safety and health hazards in a variety of settings and is a pre-requisite for many employers. Topics include hazard recognition, workers' rights, and specific safety practices.
American Heart Association BLS/CPR And First Aid Certification*
Students can work on their reading and English listening skills while they are working on CPR content. These courses are taught as part of the Nursing Assistant Preparation and 40-hour Childcare certification credential courses and as stand-alone workshops. .
ServSafe Foodhandler Certification
ServSafe Food Handler Program is a nationally recognized, accredited course that delivers consistent food safety training for employees in restaurant and other professional settings where food is served. .
Introduction to Customer Service and Entrepreneurship (for horticulturalists/artists)
This course provides opportunities to develop sales and customer service skills while earning a customer service certification. Horticulturalists grow greenhouse plants on campus and artists develop their individual crafts with marketing input. On campus sales result in profit sharing. An opportunity to intern at a growing facility is also available.
Digital Literacy
Essential computer and software skills with embedded certifications are available in both a classroom and online setting.
Modules include computer basics as well as email etiquette, digital footprint, cybersecurity, social media awareness, and online research.
*Some certification programs have fees in addition to the $30 Adult Education fee.
