Data Management Analytics Specialist, Certificate

Program Overview

The Data Management Analytics Specialist Certificate prepares students for careers as entry-level health informatics specialist or data management analysts who can acquire, manage, analyze, and present data to support better clinical and business decision-making in any healthcare setting. The fully online, 24-credit program provides hands-on, practical application of healthcare analytics and technology.

Program Highlights

Students will gain a strong foundation in both healthcare and data analytics. Coursework includes:

  • Medical terminology and healthcare delivery systems
  • Introduction to healthcare data management and analytics
  • Data visualization techniques
  • Use of R and SQL software
  • Electronic health/medical record (EHR/EMR) systems
  • Healthcare statistics and applied math/statistics
  • Project management skills
  • Ethical and legal concepts in health data
  • Employability and professional skills

Upon program completion鈥攁nd depending on prior work experience鈥攕tudents may be eligible to sit for national certification:

  • AHIMA Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA)
  • HIMSS Certified Associate of Health Information Management Systems (CAHIMS)

A Bright Future in Healthcare Data ()

Employment of management analysts is projected to grow more than 5% from 202 to 2034鈥攎uch faster than the average for all occupations. About more than 75,000 job openings for management analysts are expected annually over the decade, largely due to workforce growth and retirements. It is considered a new and emerging occupation.

All 24 credits earned in the program may be applied toward the Health Information Technology, A.S. program.

Students must earn satisfactory scores in the College Placement Test (PERT) in reading and writing prior to starting the program. If a student is not at college level, they would take the prep classes before beginning the program courses but could still be admitted.

Students can pursue two programs at the same time, such as an A.S. degree and an A.A. degree, or a primary degree and an alternate degree or supplement A.A., A.S. degree with certifications.

DRC and Testing Accommodations

    • $377.90 per credit hour x 24 credit hours = $9,069.60

Textbook, Laboratory, Reference Manual, and Field Experience Costs:

Students are responsible for the cost of their textbooks ($100 to $150 per book), virtual lab access fees ($50 to $250), and certification exams ($199 to $400 depending on the exam). All the costs are estimates and can depend on where the student purchases the item, funding, and other factors.
