Chemistry Placement Exam Study Guide
Student Instructions
To prepare for your chemistry placement exam, we recommend that you use the resource 鈥�Preparing for your ACS Examination in General Chemistry. Second Edition. The Official Guide鈥� Published by the American Chemical Society: Examinations Institute. We use this book as preparation for the final exam for both the first semester and second semester of college level chemistry. We have selected a smaller subset of questions that apply to the placement exam.
The following is the list of practice questions you should be familiar with. The questions are listed by chapter number, and then the number of the sample question (SQ) or practice question (PQ) from that chapter. The answer to each question is provided in the book. You can get access to this book on reserve at the front desk of the library, or request it directly from the tutors at the learning commons.
The practice exam can only be attempted once each semester, so please ensure you are well prepared. You will have 120 minutes to complete 55 multiple choice questions. You must achieve at least a 70% on the placement exam to test into the first semester of college chemistry (CHM2045).
