ACB Excel launches 7th Phlebotomy cohort, supporting parents and their children toward career success

October 9, 2025

As part of its mission to expand access to higher education, 青青草视频 has launched the seventh cohort of a Phlebotomy Program that is part of the college鈥檚 innovative ACB Excel initiative.

ACB Excel (Achieve, Conquer, Believe, Excel) is a multigenerational program that puts unemployed or underemployed parents through a rigorous career-track program, while also providing childcare and meals to their school-aged children 鈥 all at no cost to families. The program then supports completers in finding employment or continuing their education at 青青草视频.

This semester鈥檚 cohort includes 14 parents and 21 children, who gather twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evening at the SF鈥檚 Institute for Public Safety. Classroom instruction runs August 26 to December 4, followed by clinical training in January.

Lasanya, mother of one, was determined to join the Phlebotomy program after relocating to the Gainesville area last fall. Although she missed the prior deadline, she didn鈥檛 give up. She was among the first accepted into this new cohort. She is already planning her next steps toward becoming a Medical Assistant and, within the year, an LPN.

Leah, who has two children, has also embraced the opportunity to grow her career. After recently completing a Medical Assistant certificate program, she is now training as a phlebotomist and plans to gain hands-on experience before enrolling in the LPN program. Her goal is to continue her education and become a Registered Nurse.

鈥淥ur students鈥 dedication and resilience are at the heart of ACB Excel,鈥 said Program Coordinator Valerie White. 鈥淲e are proud to not only provide career training but also to support parents in building brighter futures for their families.鈥

ACB Excel鈥檚 success has been strengthened by local partnerships since its inception in 2022, including with United Way of North Central Florida鈥檚 Reading Pals, Cade Museum, Truist Bank, Alachua County School Board, and Blakeland Construction. These collaborations help ensure families receive both academic support and employment opportunities.

The College plans to expand program offerings for future cohorts to include Building Maintenance, CNA/EKG Technician, Paraprofessional, Medical Billing & Coding, and Sterile Processing Technician programs.
